Plain Folk is the Side Door’s ‘house band’, made up of Isabelle Delage, Mick Perreaux, Leigh Redding & Val Teodori. We open this new season with our usual brand of relaxed entertainment, combining vocal harmonies and acoustic instruments and generally having a great time on stage. NEWS FLASH – you read it here first! – we are very busy these days recording a Christmas CD, which we hope to have ready in time for this coming Holiday Season. Stay tuned!

Strawn & Moon: Amanda Strawn, a seasoned, soulful singer and musician, originates from Los Angeles and has been involved in music for 40 years. Coming from a jazz background and having lived through the evolution of music, she has been influenced by all genres. Her “dark chocolate voice” takes you on a journey through her soul. Karushka Moon, young and fresh, originating from Spain, came to America hoping to make her dream of becoming a musician come true. Along the way, she found Amanda… Blues, but not blues. Reggae, but not reggae. Folk, but not folk. Jazz, but not jazz. Spanish, but not Spanish… warm, soulful, inspiring… enjoy!

Douglas Murphy has been playing around at the craft of songwriting for more than 30 years and at times, when he and his Muse are in sync, it is his passion. The creative process has always interested him and he relishes the opportunities to perform when he can. He was once credited, on a particular songwriting site, as cornering the “nice” songwriting market He tends to write “nice” songs and always enjoys it when he is compared to his favorite performer, John Denver. He hopes to be as entertaining as him one day.

For the last 12 years, Grouyan Gombo has played music rooted in the rich Cajun and Creole legacy of southwest Louisiana. Expect soulful French vocals and infectious dance rhythms from this Montreal area formation. Harlan Johnson, a founding member, has studied and travelled frequently in Louisiana. He plays diatonic accordion and sings lead vocals. Guillaume Jabbour plays lively rhythms on acoustic guitar and sings vocals. Max McInnis plays the snare drum and Cajun triangle and Pat Loiselle plays mandolin, lap-steel and sings vocals. From a capella ballads brought over from Europe to Acadia, right up to the Cajun and Zydeco styles influenced by country and rhythm & blues still danced today; this will be an initiation to current popular and not so popular sounds from this genre.
