Zoo
is a regular guest of the side door. This country/bluegrass band features Leo Lepore on lead vocals and guitar, Val Teodori on bass and Bill Bland on fiddle, accompanied this time around by master picker Les Savage on guitar. There’s never a dull moment when they’re on stage, with upbeat tunes taken from the country, bluegrass and pop/folk repertoire.

Ottawa singer-songwriter Lynne Hanson has spent years perfecting her unique brand of roots music. The youngest of eight children, Lynne was exposed to a diverse array of musical eras and styles as she grew up, allowing her to create a hybrid brand of her own that merges universal themes with Texas soul-country. Lynne’s performances are personal and engaging, her stage skills honed on cross-country tours with Ottawa guitarist Shane Simpson. Prefacing each song with a story, her coffeehouse approach is down-to-earth, and makes Lynne the perfect addition to an intimate house concert, a summer festival or a back porch jam. Dale Boyle has been busy since his last appearance at the Side Door. Winner of the Lys Blues Folk/Blues artist of the year award two years in a row (2005 & 2006), Dale intertwines folk, country, and blues traditions in his working class songs. His newest release, entitled Small Town van Gogh (2007), features songs inspired from his roots in the Gaspé. The album, whose title track is about the life and art of Gaspé (Bougainville) painter Tennyson Johnson, shows an intimate knowledge of Gaspé life and has earned Dale a lot of media attention here and abroad. Plain Folk au féminin is a different twist on the Side Door’s “house band”. The trio of Isabelle Delage, Dawn Heitner and Leigh Redding offer a mix of songs in a blend of exquisite three-part vocal harmonies. Sometimes singing a cappella, sometimes accompanied by the other two regular members of Plain Folk, Mick Perreaux and Val Teodori, they select their repertoire from well-known female groups including the Wailin’ Jennys, the Dixie Chicks and Newfoundland’s own Ennis Sisters. The girls really know how to make the soundwaves shimmer!
