A first-time visitor to our stage, Cindy Cote’s music has been described as “fun, insightful, vibrant, meaningful…music that feels good”. With influences ranging from Jewel to Janis, Dylan to Dave Mathews and Joni to B.B. King, Cindy plays it straight from the heart and hopes to strike a few chords with and for you. With a debut EP on the loose and a dream, Cindy continues her musical journey wherever it may take her.
Jon Brooks is a folk musician in the true sense of the word, finding his inspiration as much in spiritual renewal, love and healing as in war, politics, social justice. An Ontario Council of Folk Festivals 2007’s “Songs From The Heart” winner, he was also nominated for Best Songwriter – English in the 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards and named Green Man Review's Songwriter Of The Year in 2006. Jon has released two CDs, “No Mean City” (2006) and “Ours And The Shepherds” (2007). His third and upcoming release, “Moth Nor Rust”, will complete a thematically linked trilogy. Jon’s website is at www.jonbrooks.ca. Plain Folk au féminin is a different twist on the Side Door’s “house band”. The trio of Isabelle Delage, Dawn Heitner and Leigh Redding offer a mix of songs in a blend of exquisite three-part vocal harmonies. Sometimes singing a cappella, sometimes accompanied by the other two regular members of Plain Folk, Mick Perreaux and Val Teodori, they select their repertoire from well-known female groups such as the Wailin’ Jennys, the Rankins, the Dixie Chicks and the Ennis Sisters. Crossing North is the singing-songwriting duo of Jennifer Carter-Kelly and Bruce Lawson. This will be the third year in a row that Jean and Bruce drive up from upstate New York to play on our stage, performing original country, folk and bluegrass tunes in wonderful two-part harmony over skilled guitar picking. They have two albums to their credit, “Late Night Songs” (2004) and “Fragile” (2006). For more, visit their website at www.crossingnorth.com. |
